"Super"-Hero and an analysis of its supporting characters!

Hi again, bloggers! Recently we did an analysis of our main character for "Super"-Hero: Power-Man! Today, we'll be doing that same analysis, but on our supporting characters! In this opening, our supporting characters are the 3 robbers and the homeowner!

The robbers are a keystone piece of the film, since Power-Man doesn't appear until the later half. The robbers are the main driver of the plot for the beginning, as the cameras will follow them breaking into the home, knocking out the homeowner and rummaging through drawers and cabinets. The robbers are notably panicked during the whole first half of the opening, as they stumble over each other when breaking in, immediately knock out the homeowner rather than forcing him elsewhere, and haphazardly try robbing a room looking for anything of value. They have no clear goal when breaking into this home, and are really just trying to get as much as possible in the shortest amount of time possible. No single robber has a distinct personality from the other despite their somewhat different appearances, and this is because they are meant to be generic bad guys. The spotlight is reserved for Power-Man and Power-Man only, so giving any of these characters distinguishable traits in the opening would just take away from our main character's presence in the second half of the film. They communicate hastily and in a disorderly fashion during the whole robbery, and they become especially disorganized when Power-Man enters the scene. Overall, our goal was simple: Keep the bad guys generic.

The homeowner is the last supporting character in the film, and also the last character that will be appearing in the film. For a character whose main purpose is to be knocked out and abandoned, it would seem difficult to give the homeowner any real purpose aside from being a background character. However, we adjusted the scenes so that the homeowner would be shown knocked out on the ground to add chaos and suspense to the robbery as it goes on. This adjustment will add to the robbers' panicked state and cause them to lose all sorts of composure when they enter the homeowner's room and begin robbing wherever anything valuable may be. The homeowner being knocked out on the ground will also serve as a motivation for Power-Man to serve justice to the robbers when he sees the innocent homeowner knocked out on the ground. Essentially, the homeowner is a supporting character for both the supporting characters AND the main character! With the time limit on the opening and factoring in the already fairly extensive plot we envisioned in the storyboard, this use of the homeowner character is likely the furthest extent that we can use him without risking going over 2 minutes or causing more delays to filming.
