Classmate Critiques!!

Hi! In this post, I have critiqued 4 of my fellow classmates' camera shots. These shots were all extremely well done and sometimes enjoyable to watch.

For my classmate Yulian, I critiqued his two-shot video and his establishing shot video. His two-shot showed 2 subjects, myself and Pedro, standing side-by-side. The shot developed a cooperative yet contrasting connection between myself and Pedro, in that as I was looking sternly into the distance, Pedro was on a phone. It is clear that we are different in nature, but our goal is the same. His establishing shot depicted a schoolyard on a rainy afternoon. I liked this shot because the wide pan of the schoolyard combined with the light rain evoked a gloomy mood that would have been the perfect setting for a sadder scene.

For my classmate Pablo, I critiqued his wide shot and his extreme close-up shot. His wide shot showed a subject in the distance while rain poured down from the sky. This shot was well done not only for the impressive scale it captured but also due to the atmosphere. The rain pouring down as the camera loosely focused on the faraway subject has potential for creating all sorts of moods, from sad to unsettling. His extreme close-up shot showed a subject's face as he stares at the clouds. This shot was extremely well done due to a minor detail within the shot. As the subject stares into the sky, the dark clouds are reflected in the subject's glasses. This creates an excellent buildup of suspense as the subject stares almost without emotion at the coming storm, suggesting that something big is about to happen.
